With the holidays coming up, many people are looking for places and ways to serve the homeless. With this in mind, we hope to connect people with services and opportunities to help the homeless in the San Diego area. If you know of a program or ministry that should be featured, feel free to leave a comment here and we’ll look into it. Also, if you know of useful or interesting articles that relate to homelessness, we’d love to hear about it. If you run a ministry or program for the homeless (or just have a heart for it) we are also looking for people who can contribute articles to our site.

The Homeless Ministry aims to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the homeless on the streets of San Diego.

Currently the Homeless Ministry is striving to build personal relationships with every homeless person in Downtown San Diego, through meeting them where they live to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual fulfillment.

For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.’ Deuteronomy 15:11

The Bread of Life reaches out on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights throughout the year, except on holidays. They meet together in the parking lot behind the First Presbyterian Church downtown at 3rd and Elm Street between 7:30 and 7:45pm. The primary task of the outreach is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ (the Great Commission).

Moreover, according to Matthew 25, Jesus invited those who cared for the poorest and least among us, into the Kingdom of Heaven. Providing for their basic physical needs is an integral part of the ministry, allowing us to establish a relationship with the people we meet on the streets. Thus opening a door for the Gospel based on trust and consistency. We also encourage and invite those we come in contact with to attend Church Without Walls in Balboa Park.

Please feel free to bring the following items:

Clean socks (new or used)
Blankets
Water, juice, etc…
Clothing items appropriate for the homeless population
Pre-packaged cookies etc…

If you would like more information about the Homeless Ministry, and/or how to get involved then contact Bread of Life.

Through contracts with nonprofit service providers, funds from the City’s Community Development Block Grant and Social Services programs help provide services to the Winter Shelter Program, Neil Good Day Center, 150-bed Cortez Hill Family Center and the Seniors Transitional Housing Program.
